Esther's Blogiary: The Day I healed A Chick

Little Esther was playing with her friends when she noticed she had stepped on something fragile. She looked down and discovered that it was a chick.  It shrieked painfully as it struggled to move.   Now it had a completely broken leg and couldn’t move at all.  Its mother and the other chicks had gone ahead not noticing something had happened to this particular chick.

Esther felt responsible for this chick’s misfortune though she had unknowingly stepped on it.  She felt really bad about it.  She thought about laying hands on the chick so it could heal like she had seen on the popular TV series ‘Jesus of Nazareth’, read in the bible and heard in school.

So she did.

Esther laid hands on the chick, prayed it gets healed and gbam! The chick rose up and began to walk.  It did not hesitate to run ahead to meet up with its mother and the other chick.

*Try not to laugh. I am serious here*

Esther was very happy.  She felt privileged to have had the opportunity to help a helpless creature.    Thankful to God, she went ahead to play with her friends not mentioning a word to them.  She didn’t even mention it to her parents who would probably think she had lost it.

*You can laugh now*

*This is when you stop laughing*

I like little Esther’s boldness, compassion, and the ability to attempt to do something about what’s been broken.

This is the Esther I want to be.

One of the things that strike me about this story is about how God would care about a chick! And how his Word works if ‘whosoever’ uses it.  The bible says if we believe we should ask, and whatever we believe we will have.   It also says as believers and followers of Christ, we should go into the world and preach the gospel and heal the sick.  We carry the power of God in us.  This power also demonstrates as healing power.  God respects his word and he is no respecter of persons- whoever you are!  He doesn’t have a list of special persons he specifically sent his word to.  If you respect the word, the word will respond to you. God is his word, he honors it. Jesus is the word of God.

Another eye opener I get from this incident is:

Jesus said we should study little children. We should study their attitude towards life and that whoever wants to inherit the kingdom should be like them.  A little child believes. A little child is not afraid to ask, not afraid to dream.  A little child hopes.

Sorry o, this blog is not about religion.  What I write is not religion though.

It’s just that this story comes back to me once in a while, especially when I feel numb and helpless.   It sort of helps me have hope again.  It helps me refocus, to take a step of faith and to be courageous.

Yeah, I’ve long had the opportunity to lay hands on the sick (myself included) and but this story about the chick is one that just strikes me the most.   It reminds me of how God is not partial, how he respects his word, how he loves and hears his children (irrespective of age), how he is kind and merciful and how he is the creator of all.

Final Word:

Irrespective of who you are God can use you to do the incredible.  If you are a believer you can take the word and do that which seems impossible.   This piece is not exactly about healing a chick, it is about being like a child and doing what needs to be done, doing what’s right.

I’m sure, if you too look into your past, you would find some story/incident that inspires. A story that reminds you of God’s love and shows you how important you are to him.   And it doesn’t have to be you laying hands on a chick or a sick goat.  It could be anything refreshing…

Do have a fruitful day.
